Refugee Art Exhibit 2021
Raising proceeds to support refugees
To provide economic assistance to a community of refugees in Greece, who based on structural barriers, have limited access to financial opportunities, the Global Shapers Ottawa Hub collaborated with US non-profit organization Love Without Borders for Refugees in Need to organize a Refugee Art Exhibit, which kicked off on November 18th, 2021 and closed on the 25th of that month.

Financial Literacy Series 2020
Webinar series focused on growing financial literacy
The Financial Literacy Series was presented by ZalaSmart and the Ottawa Global Shapers as part of November's Financial Literacy Month to help grow financial literacy while learning about new tools and money strategies. The 4-part webinar series covered Fundamentals of Financial Literacy, Budgeting 101, Investing 101 and Money Diaries.

Neighbourhood Cleanup: Sandy Hill
Helping the Environment and fighting pollution
This fall, members of the general public and our very own Global Shapers went to out to clean up Sandy Hill. We were able to collect dozens of garbage bags in order to clean up our community! In 2019, the Ottawa Hub brought together youth with intellectual disabilities and Shapers in a space where they could develop and foster genuine friendships and perform fun activities.
Refugee Art Exhibit
Raising proceeds to support refugees
The Ottawa Global Shapers hosted a night of art, performances, and delicious bites and beverages in support of Love Without Borders, which empowers traumatized refugees living in refugee camps in Greece by inspiring them to express their emotions through painting. For the very first time, this artwork was exhibited in Canada, with 100% of the proceeds from art sales returning to the artists to fill their immediate and unmet financial needs.
Our special guests for the evening included Jim Watson (Mayor of Ottawa), Jean-Nicolas Beuze (UN High Commissioner for Refugees Representative in Canada), and Kayra Martinez (founder of Love Without Borders). In one evening, we raised over $3,000 in support of refugees in Ottawa and abroad.

Ensuring the future works for everyone
On the occasion of Canada’s G7 Presidency, we were delighted to partner with Hubs across the G7 to consult and convey the priorities of young people and principles for action on preparing for the jobs of the future - one of the core themes for Canada’s Presidency.
This consultative process was initiated and led by the Ottawa Hub with the support of Hubs across the G7. By invitation of the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, the Ottawa Shapers presented the preliminary findings of these consultations at the G7 Ministerial on Preparing for Jobs of the Future in Montreal.

2017 Shape North America Summit
Showcasing the very best of Canada
Shape North America was a 5-day summit that brought Global Shapers from around the world to Canada during our nation’s 150th anniversary of confederation. We hosted top government, industry, and civil sector leaders and discussed solutions to global issues and trends, highlighting Canada’s important role on the world stage. We were proud to co-host with the Toronto Hub.

Insights from Canadian millennials
At the invitation of Let’s Talk Science for its Canada 2067 initiative,
Global Shaper hubs across Canada, including Ottawa, hosted a
series of dialogue sessions in their cities.
Embracing the notion that “hindsight is 20/20”, these dialogues
brought together participants from the millennial demographic, to
offer their unique perspectives on K-12 education within the context
of a new vision for a pan-Canadian STEM learning framework.
My Canada150 Photo Exhibit
Our birthday gift to Canada
As Canada celebrated its 150th anniversary of Confederation, we were proud to showcase Canada’s commitment to pluralism with a week-long outdoor photo exhibit along downtown Sparks Street in the heart of the nation's capital. The myCanada150 Photo Exhibit was launched on June 27, 2017 -- Canada Multiculturalism Day and ran through Canada Day, attracting thousands of visitors from across Canada.
Shaping Davos - World Economic Forum
What new thinking and approaches are reshaping politics and civic engagement?
Shaping Davos is a conversation that features local solutions to global issues. #shapingdavos brings the world to Davos and Davos to the world through a series of live events hosted by the Global Shapers Community using two-way live streaming. The Ottawa Hub was selected as one of 40 cities globally to host a local event, which the Hub followed up with a virtual broadcast to Davos-Klosters via satellite with CBC Power & Politics host Evan Solomon from CBC’s Ottawa studio.
The Power of Tri-Sector Leadership
One Young World Summit 2016
The Ottawa Hub was proud to partner with the Young Diplomats of Canada to host a breakout session titled “The Power of Tri-Sector Leadership’’ as part of the One Young World Summit. This session, which took place at the Embassy of the United States to Canada, featured a speech followed by a question and answer session with the US Ambassador to Canada, Mr. Bruce Heyman, as well as case studies discussions with Canadian tri-sector leaders.
Ottawa Peace Talks
Building peace through diversity
Organized by Interpeace and the Global Centre for Pluralism, the Ottawa Peace Talks aimed to inspire reflection and discussion about how respect for diversity can promote more peaceful societies through inclusion, both in Canada and globally. The Ottawa Hub was a proud contributor to the event.
Fort McMurray Relief
Shapers help rebuild playground in Fort Mac
After wildfires ravaged the northern Alberta town of Fort McMurray, the Ottawa Hub came together to host a bubble soccer tournament to raise relief funds to help rebuild a playground for school children as part of a wider fundraising effort.

Panel Discussion with Canadian Entrepreneurs
In this discussion, we brought together a number of young entrepreneurs, and business sector stakeholders, to discuss their experience in navigating pandemic life for young business owners. Our panelists will discuss the trials and tribulations of operating during the COVID-19 Pandemic, as well as the resources available during these challenging times.
